The funny thing is.. The “Santa Fe Look” is based of old Navajo Women who were held hostage at various forts on the Navajo reservation. They copied the soldiers wives’ clothing cuts but added their own colors and adaptions (turquoise, silver, etc). I should know, my own grandmother who still had the certification of Indian blood tattoo on her arm as a little girl was held along with her family would tell me various stories of her youth.

He went to Japan and met her and photographed her for several years at different times. I think its harder now because there aren’t many geisha left at all.

I actually went to Japan for the sole purpose of photographing geishas as well (a couple on my blog – feel free to check it out if you have a moment). These are really, really, REALLY beautiful. I love how the photos capture how graceful this woman is. Standing in front of a geisha is almost a surreal experience – it’s almost unbelievable how beautiful they are.
